‘Quarterback’ Netflix series review
The new Netflix series “Quarterback” was released earlier this month, and I just finished watching. The series was produced by Pro Football Hall of Fame Quarterback Peyton Manning, and it followed three current NFL quarterbacks during the 2022-2023 season.
The three quarterbacks starring in the series are: Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota. This was the first season of the series, featuring eight episodes. The series documents the entire season for each of the quarterbacks and their teams.
Patrick Mahomes plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, Kirk Cousins plays for the Minnesota Vikings, and Marcus Mariota played most of the 2022-2023 season for the Atlanta Falcons.
What was amazing about the series is seeing so much behind the scenes of each of these players’ day to day lives including their family lives, game prepping, exercise plans, and more.
I think many people thought Mahomes would be the star of the show, after all he did win the Super Bowl during the 2022-23 season. However, Cousins seemed to steal the spotlight. I was already a big Kirk Cousins fan, but now I’m a super fan.
His character and work ethic really shined throughout the series. In a recent interview, they asked the stars of the show who the most underrated quarterback in the NFL is, and Mahomes said Kirk Cousins. I think Cousins gained a lot more fans from this series.
As my fellow Vikings fans know, we had a great season last year, so to relive that through this series was awesome. However, when you get to the end of the Vikings’ season, it’s an emotional ending, even though you know what’s coming.
I think this series really humanized these three players. I think football fans expect a lot out of quarterbacks, and remembering they are just human too puts things into perspective.
Overall, it was a fantastic series. If you have not watched it yet, I highly recommend it. Even if you aren’t a football fan, it’s amazing to see all the work that goes into professional sports.
