Dorothy Griffin, 83

In Remembrance of Dorothy Ann Griffin - January 17, 1939 to July 6, 2022

Dorothy and family moved from the Twin Cities to Maple Lake in 1990, where she began a new life after her husband died while still helping to raise her granddaughter. She began her journey at Marketplace Buffalo working for her beloved Manager Connie and owner Marv, whom she respected and appreciated immensely for providing the full-time opportunity and standing behind her in old age until she retired. Shortly after it converted to Cub, where she became affectionately known as the “Cub Lady” to many of the patrons she graciously served with enthusiasm and respect at her checkout lane. Opinionated as she certainly was, she never missed an opportunity to share tips and sales events that might benefit the elderly that she never rushed, or the less fortunate whose funds were sparse, and she especially adored the children she’d try to soothe while the mothers were busily unpacking and repacking. Many would wait to go through her lane and then take the time to fill out comment cards acknowledging the wonderful service she provided them until she retired at 72. Yet many inquired about her for years to follow. She loved her work to which she often referred to as her social life, as well as everyone she encountered through it, always missing the camaraderie she shared with them. Mother, you will be loved forever!

Dorothy is survived by son, Kelly Griffin; granddaughter and spouse, Holly (Griffin) and Jake Westling; brother, Richard; sister, June; and nephew’s family, Joby and Christy, Meaghan, Joseph, and Isabella Novak.

She was preceded by husband, William; daughter, Dawn Griffin; her parents, Joseph and Kathryn (Thury); brothers, Edward and spouse, Annette, and Robert Novak.

Funeral service was held on Monday, July 18, 2022, at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, with visitation at 1:00 p.m., service was 1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m., followed by burial at 2:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
