Sherlyn Anderson, 55
Sherlyn Muriel (Carl) Anderson, age 55, of St. Michael, MN, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2022, with her husband and children by her side. She was born September 30, 1966, in Sisseton, SD, the daughter of Don and Betty Gail (Cornelius) Carl.
Sherlyn was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hecla, SD; and confirmed at United Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake, MN.
Sherlyn graduated from Elbow Lake Wendell High School with the class of 1984. She furthered her education at St. Cloud Business College and graduated from Rasmussen Business College in 1988 with a Court Reporting Degree. Sherlyn was a well-respected Registered Professional Reporter and owned Advanced Reporting for 22 years. She had a desire to recruit new reporters and advocated to keep the laws the way they are, allowing reporters to stay in the courts. She was also a member of the court reporter’s association MAVRC.
On June 22, 1985, Sherlyn Carl married her high school sweetheart, Jeff Anderson, at Sherlyn’s family home in Elbow Lake, MN. They were blessed with three children, Josh, Chris and Carlyn.
Sherlyn enjoyed many things throughout life, including traveling to multiple countries, bird watching, spending time at the lake cabin, boating, fishing, and her dogs - especially her pugs. Sherlyn’s greatest passion in life was her family. She was always extremely proud of her family, and they meant the world to her. She loved spending time with family and friends and attending all the grandkids’ activities. She also took joy in the holidays – from the decorations to annual Christmas cookie baking parties, to making everlasting memories and holiday traditions with her family. Sherlyn was an incredible host and made the most delicious meals, always making sure she had plenty of food for everyone to take home, too.
Sherlyn truly welcomed everyone into her heart. She was the most kind and generous person, always having a beautiful smile on her face. She was there for anyone at any time, never missed a family or friends’ birthday, and never had a mean thing to say to anyone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Betty Gail Carl; and infant brother, Duane Don Carl.
Sherlyn will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Jeff Anderson; children, Josh (Danielle) Anderson, Chris (Heather) Anderson, Carlyn (Brett) Spoden; grandchildren, Payton, Jaxon, Viola, Miles, Carl; siblings, Donnie (Laurie June) Carl, JuvaLee (Donald) Wolf; parents-in-law, Kay (Lyndon) Kratochwill and Carroll “Bud” (Mona) Anderson; Goddaughters, Laura Wolf (Nick) Carlisle, Shaina (Lincoln) Hoffmeister; former exchange student and best friend from Denmark, Lone Gade Lilleøre (Frank); and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other family members and countless friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Crossroads Animal Shelter in Buffalo, MN, and/or to Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Maple Grove, MN.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022, from 1:00 to 5:00 P.M., with a celebration of life at 4:00 PM, at The Peterson Chapel, 300 Main St. N, St. Michael, MN 55376. An inurnment will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022, at 1:00 P.M., at the outdoor Memorial Peace Garden at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 7401 County Road 101, Maple Grove, MN 55311.

Mark Coolen, 79
Mark Lawrence Coolen, age 79, of Delano, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022.
He was born on January 9, 1943, in Buffalo, the son of Lawrence A. and Sabina M. (Flynn) Coolen.
He belonged to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo.
Mark enjoyed riding bike, fishing, baseball, and reading the newspapers.
Mark is survived by his siblings, Chris Coolen, William (Judith) Coolen, Joseph Coolen, and Margaret (Fred) Bunting, all of Buffalo; three nieces, a nephew, other relatives, and friends further survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James; a sister, Marian; and by a sister-in-law, Katherine Coolen.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mark Coolen was held on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo. Father Nathaniel Meyers was the Celebrant. Interment followed at St. Mark’s Cemetery-Pelican Lake. Visitation was held one hour prior to Mass at the church.
Casket Bearers were Chris Coolen, Will Coolen, Joe Coolen, John Coolen, Margaret and Fred Bunting.

Marjorie Danielson, 85
Marjorie E. (Spreiter) Danielson, age 85, of Chicago, Illinois, formerly of Hector, Minnesota passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at her daughter’s home in Chicago.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 29, 2022, at 11:00 P.M. at Hughes-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hector, Minnesota, with interment in the Hector City Cemetery. Clergy Officiating: Pastor Dave Drager
Marjorie Ellen Anderson was born in Worthington, Minnesota, on March 14, 1936, to Fred and Nina (Johnson) Anderson. Later that year, their family moved to Plainview, Minnesota, and then in 1938, to Spring Valley, Minnesota, where Marjorie started school. During WWII, they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Fred worked at Northern Pump making parts for battle ships and taught classes at Dunwoody Institute. When the war ended in 1945, the family moved to Hector, Minnesota, where her dad purchased the Oldsmobile dealership. Marjorie often helped her dad drive new vehicles between states and later did some bookkeeping for his business. Fred later opened a family restaurant called Freddie’s Café.
Marjorie, along with her dear younger sister, Marilynn, enjoyed growing up in a small, rural community. She was involved with friends and participated in the marching and concert bands, choir and was a part of the Homecoming court her senior year. Following her high school graduation, Marjorie attended the University of Minnesota for two years, preparing to become a Home Economics major. That plan was changed on Christmas of her sophomore year when her high school sweetheart, David Spreiter, proposed and the two were married on September 14, 1956, at First Methodist Church in Hector. To that union were born four children, Susan, Nancy, Daniel, and Jennifer.
Marjorie was involved in the First Methodist Church in Hector, as Sunday School teacher, directing the children’s choir, singing in the senior choir and as a substitute organist. She also participated in church women’s group activities, Christian Women’s Club, and as a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed planning family vacations to National Parks and other historic places. Marjorie was known for her hospitality at their cabin on Diamond Lake. Hobbies throughout her life included reading, needlework, journaling her travels and life’s experiences, and working on genealogy. Her children recall their mom imparting traditions, such as baking Christmas cookies and delivering them to elderly neighbors. She played the piano after Christmas dinner while family members sang along before sharing their music with nursing home residents in nearby Buffalo Lake.
In June 1980, following the sale of the Hector Security State Bank, Marjorie and David, along with Dan and Jenny moved to Green Mountain Falls, Colorado, and later lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In September 1995, they returned to Minnesota and settled in Buffalo, Minnesota. They biked many of the State’s trails and participated in the annual St. Paul Classic Bike Ride with family and friends. Marjorie’s work on family history led to taking a Swedish language class at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis. This was followed by a trip to Scandinavia in 2001, where she and David stayed on the farm in Sweden, where her maternal grandfather was born and explored the area in Denmark where her paternal grandparents had resided.
Following a period of declining health, David passed away on May 29, 2004.
Two years later, Marjorie met Donald Danielson at a fellowship group through their church and were married on August 5, 2006. Together, they were involved in the Buffalo Covenant Church Victory Band where they entertained seniors throughout the area. They enjoyed traveling to the places where their children lived including Alaska, Washington State, Florida, and Illinois, as well as taking trips to Niagara Falls and the Bahamas. Don passed away on December 13, 2017.
In the year that followed Don’s passing, Marjorie’s daughter, Nancy lived with her mom until she moved to Park Terrace Assisted Living and Memory Care in Buffalo. Then in May 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Marjorie moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she lived with her daughter, Susan and her husband, Mark, until her death on February 2, 2022.
Preceding Marjorie in death were her parents, Fred and Nina Anderson; sister, Marilynn Zuelke; first husband, David Spreiter (of 48 years); second husband, Donald Danielson (of 11 years); David’s parents, Leslie and Florence Spreiter; brothers-in-law, Stephen and Theodore Spreiter, and Robert Zuelke; as well aunts, uncles and cousins.
She is survived by children, Susan Spreiter (husband, Mark Rund), of Chicago, Illinois; Nancy Spreiter, of Buffalo, Minnesota; Daniel Spreiter (partner, Dara Smook), of Luverne, Minnesota; and Jennifer Almquist (husband, David Almquist), of Colfax, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Lauren (Shawn) Clark, Katie Robinson, Emily (Jonathan) Acevedo, Mark Spreiter, Andrew (Elizabeth) Almquist, Matthew (Lauren) Almquist, Lydia (Liam) Lafferty, Matthew Rund and Maureen (Eric) Becker; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Christian, Ezekiel and Elena Clark; Natalie and Courtney Acevedo; Jackson, Daniel and Andrew Rund; and Timothy, Sarah and Joseph Becker; two more great-grandchildren will be born this year. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Mary Spreiter, and Jo Lynn Spreiter; former sister-in-law, Jaylene Haspert; as well as by nieces, nephews, cousins, life-long friends, and the family of Donald Danielson.

Ruth Dixon, 93
Ruth H. Dixon, age 93, of Plymouth, passed on Sunday, February 6, 2022.
She was born on January 30, 1929, in Maple Plain, MN, the oldest daughter of Herman A. and Cora (Becker) Mielke.
Ruth graduated from Rockford High School in 1946, as the Valedictorian of her class. After high school, Ruth worked as a bookkeeper in downtown Minneapolis before marrying John D. Dixon on August 26, 1949, at Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Their love for dancing started at the beginning of their relationship and carried them well into their 90’s.
Along with being a “Household Engineer” in Grand Forks, ND, Ruth served as President of both Engineering Wives group at UND and LWML at Redeemer Lutheran Church. She also sewed throughout her life, making much of her own wardrobe, as well as polka dance outfits for herself, John, and other dance friends. Ruth also did occasional quilting for her church, both at Redeemer in Grand Forks, ND, and at Beautiful Savior in Plymouth, MN.
Ruth is survived by her children, Rita Zeman (Bryan Striemer), Ron Dixon (Patty Haase), Jeff (Barb) Dixon, and Janice Dixon; grandchildren, Renee (Tim), Joe, Sam, and Luke; great-grandson, Harrison; sister, Irene Thompson; sisters-in-law, Judy Mielke and Hertha Dixon; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, John D. Dixon on November 17, 2019; a granddaughter, Ramona Zeman; her parents, Herman and Cora Mielke; and siblings, Arthur Mielke and Joanne (Pat) Rogers.
Funeral services for Ruth Dixon will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 17, one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Casket Bearers will be Ron Dixon, Jeff Dixon, Joe Dixon, Sam Dixon, Luke Dixon, Tim Rudolph, and Bryan Striemer.

Lawrence Graves, 67
Lawrence (Larry) Michael Graves, 67, of Buffalo, MN, passed away February 11, 2022. He was born October 1, 1954, in Hopkins, MN, son of Earl and Cecelia Lindskoog.
He attended school in Hopkins and started working at a very young age doing dishes. Soon after, he began cooking, where he found his true passion. He spent a collective eight years cooking alongside his mom at Oak Ridge Country Club, Flying Cloud Airport, and Calhoun Beach Manor. Soon after beginning a family, Larry changed careers to allow more time with loved ones. He began working at Johnson and Peterson where he poured concrete. Larry showed great pride in his work. Family and friends benefited from his skills and after 40 years of working in concrete, he retired at age 62.
Friday, June 13, 1975, he married Mari Hambor, (they celebrated every Friday the 13th). On Halloween night in 1977, they moved into their first house in Buffalo, MN. Nine months later Angi was born– with Amanda and Lacey to follow.
Larry was a devoted husband and enjoyed spending much of his free time with his wife, Mari. Together, they enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing and loved annual vacations up at Deer Lake, where he visited for 20+ years. He will be missed by many.
Larry is survived by wife, Mari; daughters, Angela (Kenneth) Pawelk, Amanda Graves (Tony) and Lacey (Douglas) Lambert; grandchildren, Cameron Graves; Mackenzie, Tayler, Levi and Ivy Pawelk; Samera and Kayden Lambert; and great-granddaughter, Esmerelda Graves; siblings, Pam, Bobby, Jackie, Greg, Casey, and Colleen; nieces, nephews and many in-laws.
He was preceded in death by infant daughter, Laura Michelle Graves; parents, Earl and Cecilia Lindskoog; brother, Randy Graves; and nephew, James Graves; in-laws, Edward and Carol Hambor; brother-in-law, Danny Hambor.
Visitation is February 22, 2022, 4:00 p.m. at Peterson Chapel in Buffalo, service to follow at 6:00 p.m. Celebration of Life planned for summer, more details to follow.

Rita Holland, 77
Rita M. Holland, age 77, of Buffalo, passed away on Monday, February 14, 2022, at her residence.

Jacqueline Kuhns, 75
Jacqueline “Jackie” Kuhns, caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away at her home on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at the age of 75.
Jackie was preceded in death by her father, John Hanson; her mother, Adeline Hanson; sisters, LaVonne Ramsay and Janice Henke; brother, John Hanson; nieces, Ana Plante, Karen Smiley and Beth Schalk.
She is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Kuhns; daughter, Kristi (Jeff) Wagner; son, Kevin (Bethany Catalano) Kuhns; grandchildren, Benjamin Wagner, Joshua Wagner, Makenna Wagner, Jayden Kuhns, Josie Kuhns, Hailey Walker, Mitchell, Daniel, Vincent and Dominick Peloquin; and her cherished nephews and nieces.
Jackie was born in Fargo, ND. Her family moved to Glenwood, MN, where she met the love of her life, Kenneth in 7th grade. After graduating from Glenwood High School in 1964, she went on to study at Luther College in Decorah, IA. Two years later, Ken convinced her to come home to MN and get married. She finished her schooling at the University of MN in Minneapolis. Jackie and Ken moved to Buffalo, MN, where they raised Kristi and Kevin.
Jackie was a vibrant light with a smile that lit up any room she entered. She deeply cared for people and wanted to make the world a better place by making others feel happy. One of her favorite sayings was “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” Jackie was an elementary teacher in Richfield, MN, Anoka, MN and Monticello, MN. She had a tremendously big heart for kids and always went the extra mile to make sure they knew they were loved.
Jackie’s love of music led her to perform as an accomplished trumpet player and become a wonderful pianist. She loved accompanying her daughter, Kristi, on her flute, the Zion Lutheran Senior Choir, many high school students for solo and ensemble, and recently began teaching piano lessons. She participated in many musical organizations, including the St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra, the Buffalo Community Orchestra, Buffalo Community Theater’s Pit Orchestras, and a professional brass quintet, Class Brass.
Jackie loved and appreciated her time spent with family, friends and her two puppies, Mandy and Charley. She especially enjoyed spending time with family at the lake in Alexandria, MN. She always found a way to gather family and spend precious time together. Jackie will be remembered for many things, but especially for her love of others and her big heart.

A Visitation for Jackie will be Monday, February 21 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at The Peterson Chapel, 119 Central Ave., Buffalo, MN. Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 22 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation continuing one hour prior to the service at Zion Lutheran Church, 1200 State Hwy 25 S, Buffalo, MN. Luncheon to follow at church. Private family interment at a later date.

Barbara Schwietering, 62
Barbara Jeanne Schwietering, age 62, of Buffalo, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
She was born on July 11, 1959, in Golden Valley, the daughter of Harold and Thersille (Ring) Laurent.
On May 8, 1982, Barbara J. Laurent and Timothy J. Schwietering were joined in holy marriage at St. Anne Catholic Church in Hamel. God blessed their marriage with three daughters.
Her family was very important to Barb, especially her husband, daughters, and grandchildren.
She enjoyed nature, painting, drawing, reading, and animals, especially her dogs. Barb was also fond of taking walks, hiking, and traveling to South Padre Island.
She is survived by her loving husband, Timothy J. Schwietering; daughters, Nicole (Brad) Treb, Sarah (Owen) Truesdell and Rachel (Tim) Schade; grandchildren, Ethan and Sophie Treb; siblings, Dan Laurent, David (Kelly) Laurent, Donna (Tom) Sicheneder, and Diane Morris; a brother-in-law, Tom Logan.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents and by two sisters, Pam Laurent and Pat Logan.
A Memorial Service for Barbara J. Schwietering will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at 5:30 P.M. at The United Methodist Church in Buffalo. A visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, February 17, two hours prior to the service.

Robert Steinhaus, 80
Robert W. (Bob) Steinhaus, age 80, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo, Minnesota.
Bob was born December 25, 1941, in Morton, Minnesota, to Wilbert and Sophie (Reetz) Steinhaus.
Bob was a Vietnam veteran serving in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1964. He received several honorable medals.
Bob was a member of the America Legion Post 13 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He and his wife enjoyed many fun activities at the Legion.
Bob was an easygoing, uncomplicated sort of guy. He loved life, his family, and friends. His passions were traveling, campfires, quilting (17 quilts), and dancing with his wife. Bob and Lorie traveled and lived full-time in their “Little House” for 22-plus years, spending the majority of their time on Lake Ouachita in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and Sophie Steinhaus; and sisters, Lola Schmidt, and Dorothy Stuve.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Loreene (Lorie) Steinhaus; brother, Jim Steinhaus; stepchildren, Joe (Barb) Villareal, Kathryn (Mike) Wiltsey, and Dean Villareal; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and many other family members and friends. Special recognition to his lifelong friends of 70 plus years, Dale and Paula Conrad.
To honor Bob, a “Celebration of Life” is being planned for some time in the spring.
