Douglas Ouverson, 80

Douglas Allen Ouverson, age 80, of Buffalo, MN, passed away on September 15, 2024. He was born on December 18, 1943, in Mason City, Iowa, to Melvin and Cora (Severson) Ouverson.

He grew up in Fertile, Iowa, and attended Fertile Consolidated School, where he graduated with the class of 1961.

Doug married Margaret McGrady-Adams in 1963, and together, they had four children, Douglas Jr., Barbara, Candy, and Theresa. Their young family grew and made memories, living in Iowa, California, and eventually settling in Minnesota. In 1975, Doug married Ruth (Wahnschaffe) Ouverson, with whom he shared two more children, Troy and Alyssa. They built a loving home and enjoyed their time together until Ruth’s passing in 2007. In the last few years of his life, Doug found companionship and comfort in his relationship with Lynn Dylla.

Doug was a hardworking businessman, owning and operating his own company, Ouverson Excavating, from 1969 until his retirement in 2008, and working alongside his son, Troy, for the last sixteen of those years. From trapshooting to golfing, building cigar box guitars to flying his experimental aircraft over central Minnesota, Doug was a man of many hobbies and made lasting friendships along the way. His life-long love for riding motorcycles took him on many adventures, as did his passion for snowmobiling.

Late in life, after a visit with his daughter, Theresa, he found a little slice of heaven in Stonewall, Texas, where he spent winters listening to live music, dancing with Lynn, and cruising the countryside on motorcycle. A music enthusiast, over the years he dabbled with the harmonica and accordion, and played the coronet and a single song on the piano his whole family will remember.

Doug was a man of solid faith, which he carried throughout his life. He cared deeply for his family, and his favorite role of all was Grandpa. He delighted in watching his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-nephews grow + experience life.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; and parents, Melvin and Cora Ouverson.

Doug is survived by his children, Douglas, Jr. (Kelly), Barbara (Mike) Long, Candy (Scott) Elsbury, Theresa (John) Leiting, Troy (Kelli), and Alyssa (Benjamin) Porubcan; brother, Steve (Darla); 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; companion, Lynn; nephews, nieces, and many other relatives and friends.

Doug will be remembered for his strong faith and family values, and the connections he nurtured throughout his life.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 2:30 P.M. with visitation that began at 1:00 P.M. at the Buffalo Covenant Church, 1601 Highway 25 N, Buffalo, MN. Interment followed at Kreidler Cemetery in Montrose, MN.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to The Peterson Chapel of Buffalo. Online condolences for the family may be directed to www.thepetersonchapel.com.
