John Leuer, 67

John Donald Leuer, age 67, of St. Michael, MN.

The life of John Donald Leuer was marked by faith, family, hard work, laughter, and love. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend, John entered into eternal rest on May 18, 2026. His family grieves his loss deeply, while entrusting him to the love and mercy of God.

John grew up on his family’s farm in St. Michael, Minnesota, the fourth of seven children. He often reflected fondly on the warm memories of his childhood, especially the joy of growing up in a large family. The land where he was raised remained deeply meaningful to him throughout his life. In time, he built his own home on that same land, where he and Lynn would raise their family.

From a young age, John knew the meaning of hard work. He was dedicated to dairy farming throughout his youth and into adulthood, developing the remarkable work ethic that became one of the defining qualities of his life as well as his integrity and pride he took in doing things well.

At St. Michael-Albertville High School, he had a passion for wrestling, track, and football, and went on to play college football at NDSU.

John married his bride, Lynn Walters, in 1989 and, together, they celebrated 37 years of marriage. Their life together was blessed with four children and a growing number of grandchildren. John faithfully provided for his family through the company he founded, Northwest Carpet and Upholstery Cleaners.

Being a dad and grandpa was the joy of John’s life. He found deep happiness in being present for his children - shuttling them to school, coaching their teams, and cheering them on in all they pursued. Whether it was softball, wrestling, football, piano recitals, Wright County Fairs, school plays, choir concerts, or countless practices and games, John was there. He celebrated their efforts and taught them by example to work hard, do their best, and carry themselves with character.

He especially treasured family time and the memories made on family vacations. John was never one to sit still--he loved being active and found joy in camping, hiking, fishing, cooking, grilling, caring for his property and animals, and playing cards.

He was also a devoted fan of the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Twins, and Gopher football. John’s life was deeply rooted in faith. He prayed the rosary every morning, taught his family to love and trust in the Lord, and instilled in them the importance of making it to church every Sunday. The book Uncommon by Tony Dungy was a staple of his daily reading, and its message reflected many of the virtues John lived out: faith, character, discipline, and perseverance.

He often went out of his way to help those in need and had a gift for making others feel encouraged and cared for, embodying selflessness and quiet strength. He was deeply loved, and his life and example will continue to shape his family forever.

John is preceded in death by his daughter, Annette Leuer; his parents, Donald and Alice (Leger) Leuer; his father-in-law, Rodney Walters; and his brother-in-law, Earle Brown.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lynn; daughter Amelia (Peter) Lyngdal; sons, Donald and Carl Leuer; granddaughter, Pauline Lyngdal and baby boy, Lyngdal, due in July; siblings, Mike (Holly) Leuer, Jim (Mary) Leuer, Nancy (Duane) Lipinski, Teresa (Mark) Binkley, Jean (Jim) Westrum, and Dan (Katie) Leuer; mother-in-law, Mary Walters; sister-in-law, Susan Brown; brother-in-law, Ronald Walters; many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends; and his faithful German Shepherd, Riggins.

A Mass of Christian Burial for John Donald Leuer will be held on Thursday, May 28, at 11:00 A.M. at The St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael, MN. Father Brian Park will be the Celebrant. Interment will follow at The St. Michael Cemetery. A visitation was held on Wednesday, May 27, from 4-8 P.M. at The St. Michael Catholic Church-St. Joseph Hall in St. Michael, MN. A Prayer service was held at 7:00 P.M. Further visitation Thursday morning, May 28, one hour prior to Mass at the church.
