Willis Cardinal, 87

Willis Delmer Cardinal, age 87, of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at The Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN.

He was born on January 25,1935, to Willmar and Muriel (Jewett) Cardinal at home in Waverly, MN.

Willis attended a one-room country school through 8th grade and graduated from Buffalo High School in 1954.

He honorably served his Country in the United States Army from 1955-1957.

Willis worked for Washington Scientific Industries, E.R. Squibb & Sons Pharmaceutical Company for many years and then he worked for The Edina Schools for 30 years and retired from there in 1998.

He enjoyed dancing, especially the Hop Polka, a cold beer, Cribbage, gardening, and John Deere tractors.

He is survived by a daughter, Lesa Driscoll; sons, Les Cardinal and Dan Cardinal; ex-spouse and friend, Darleen Cardinal; siblings, Mylen and Margie Cardinal, Marlette and Bill Babatz, Arlynn Cardinal (Mary Lou), Gerlene and Tony Klingelhoets, Orlan Cardinal and Dorlyn “Dewey” and Peggy Cardinal; sisters-in-law, Harriet Splettstoeszer and Donna Bergquist; brother-in-law, Duane Lyrek; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Verla Lyrek, brothers, Garryl Cardinal and Delwin Cardinal; sisters-in-law, Jane Cardinal, Diane Cardinal, Marlene Cardinal, and Betty Lou Bergquist; brothers-in-law, Norman Splettstoeszer, Bennie Bergquist, and Jim Bergquist; a nephew, Dennis Babatz; and a great-nephew, Austin Cardinal.

Funeral Services for Willis Cardinal will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Montrose. Pastor James Grabitske will officiate. Interment with military rites will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery. Lunch and fellowship will follow in the church basement.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 7, AT THE CHURCH from 12 Noon until time of services at 2:00 P.M.

Casket Bearers will be Willis’s nephews, Benny Dale Bergquist, Daryl Cardinal, David Cardinal, Justin Cardinal, Gary Klingelhoets, and Terry Splettstoeszer.

Luther Priebe, 85

Luther Priebe, age 85 of Princeton, MN, formerly of Maple Lake and Rockford, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2022. A Celebration of Luther’s Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church in Princeton with a visitation one hour prior to the celebration at the church. Pastor Steve Tischer will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Princeton. Arrangements are entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Princeton.

Luther Herman was born to Herman and Wilhelmina “Minnie” (Luther) Priebe on May 6, 1937, in Osseo. He was the baby of the family, joining siblings Weldon, Verneil, and Vernette. He was baptized on May 30, 1937, and confirmed March 18, 1951, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Osseo. He graduated from Osseo High School in 1955 and married his sweetheart, Phyllis Lucht, on July 12, 1958. Joining the Army Reserves in 1959, he was called into active duty in 1962. They lived in Maple Grove, and to this union, Michelle and Bethany were born. Luther and Phyllis built their own home in Rockford in 1971, and Luther’s hand was in all of it; from laying block to hanging sheetrock and installing windows and trim. He used his knowledge in woodworking, plumbing, and wiring and took great pride in using these talents to make a home for his family. He had an innate ability to excel at every type of craftsmanship. He worked as a mechanic, then welder and iron worker for Western Steel Inc., and after retiring, worked at the hardware store doing small engine repair.

Luther enjoyed sharing his knowledge and serving others. He helped his family with many home-improvement projects. He worked with iron as his career. He also enjoyed creating bird houses, feeders, and ornamental iron works. His father-in-law’s 1953 Ford Tractor was in disrepair, and Luther found joy in restoring it. He made friends quickly and easily by sharing his quick wit.

Luther will be deeply missed by his daughters, Michelle (Joel) Schulze and Bethany (Tony) Burda; grandchildren, Derek (Jackie) Schulze and Troy (Alyssa) Schulze; great-grandchildren, Landon, Nolan, Carter, and Luke; step-grandchildren, Deven Burda, Alex (Rachel) Burda, and Philip Burda; and step-great-grandchildren, Thea, Layla, Lacey, and John.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis; siblings, Weldon (Lee) Priebe, Verneil Priebe, and Vernette (Carl) Wendler; and great-granddaughter, Lila Ann Schulze.

 


Gary Randt, 70

Gary Lee Randt, of Buffalo, MN, passed away on December 26, 2022, of natural causes.

Gary, son of Harry and Ruth Randt, was born on November 11, 1952, in Willmar, Minnesota. He was baptized on November 30, 1952, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City, Minnesota, and confirmed in his faith on April 3, 1966, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato, Minnesota. Gary graduated from Glencoe Senior High School in 1970.

On February 21, 1976, Gary was united in marriage to Rebecca Doehling. Gary and Rebecca, through 46 years of marriage, were blessed with two children, Nathan and Alisa, and three grandchildren, Aubrey, Jonathan, and Zachary.

Gary’s greatest joy in life was spending time with family, especially his beloved grandchildren.  Gary was full of life and always had a dad joke at the ready, even if it didn’t make sense to the adults. Hardworking and loving, Gary also enjoyed outdoor sports, cars, woodworking, and puzzles.

Gary is survived by his wife, Rebecca Randt; children, Nathan (Amy) Randt, Alisa (Ryan) Walters; grandchildren, Aubrey Walters, Jonathan and Zachary Randt; siblings, Carol Alsleben, Janice Henning, Sharon (Michael) Fox, Chuck (Linda) Randt, Jane Randt and Dave Zimmerman, Darryl Randt; sisters-in- law, Miriam Randt, Ramona Rogahn, Brenda (Charles) Zarza, Gloria Doehling, Mary (Reverend Al) Doering; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Ruth Randt; parents-in-law, Harold and Caroline Doehling; brothers, David Randt, Randy Randt; brothers-in-law, Aaron Alsleben, Larry Henning, Dennis Rogahn; sister-in-law, Cindy Randt; nephew, Brandon Randt; nephew-in-law, Seth Doering.

A visitation was held on Saturday, December 31, 2022, beginning at 9:30 A.M. until time of service at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo, Minnesota.

A funeral service for Gary Lee Randt was held on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo, Minnesota.

Pastor Ryan Clark officiated.

Honorary Casket Bearers were Gary’s grandchildren, Aubrey Walters, Jonathan and Zachary Randt.

Casket Bearers were Matt Randt (nephew), Josh Randt (nephew), Darron Alselben (nephew), Jeremy Parpart (nephew), Stacy Petersen (niece), Ryan Walters (son-in-law), Chuck Randt (brother), Ken Petersen (nephew-in-law).

Interment was held at Lakeview Cemetery in Buffalo, Minnesota.

Jamison Soland, 42

Jamison Royce Soland, age 42, of Watertown passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022.

He was born in Robbinsdale on March 23, 1980, the son of Marvin D. and Cynthia H. (Wegge) Soland.

He very much loved his family and friends. Jamie had a big heart and a lot of love to give. He enjoyed being able to help and always loved fixing things.

Survived by a daughter, Jamalyn Weege-Soland, of Rockford; his father, Marvin “Whitey” Soland, of Rockford; a sister, Chelsea Soland, of Montrose, and her sons, Evan and Rylan; other relatives and friends.

Jamison was preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia Soland; and by maternal grandparents, George and Clara Wegge.

A Celebration of Life for Jamison Soland will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. Pastor Dean Brown will officiate.

A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 14, one hour prior to services.

Wilma Walker, 91

Wilma A. “Babe” Walker, age 91, of rural Buffalo, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022, at The Buffalo Hospital.

She was born on July 11, 1931, in Reva, South Dakota, the daughter of Hugo and Irma (Carr) Hanson.

On June 18, 1949, Wilma “Babe” Hanson was joined in holy marriage to Terrance H. “Terry” Walker in St. Cloud.  God blessed their marriage with three sons.

Babe and Terry engaged in farming for many years. She also was formerly employed by Lee Wagner at his drug store.

Babe was an excellent cook and many people stopped for coffee and never went hungry. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survived by her loving husband of seventy-three years, Terry Walker; sons, Greg Walker (Renell Steffenson), Ed (Kathy) Walker, and Matt (Shannon) Walker; eight grandchildren, Brett (Amy) Walk-er, Katie (Bill) Greenough and Ryan Walker; Corey (Lacey) Walker, Teri (Jason) Kuperus and Nicole (Lee) Schultz; Marah Walker and Ben Walker; seventeen great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Dee Hanson; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and a sister, Kenneth Hanson, Iris Van Lith, and Dean Hanson.

A Celebration of Life for Wilma “Babe” Walker will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 4:00 P.M. at The Montrose Community Center in Montrose, MN.   

A time of gathering will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023, from 1-4 P.M. at The Montrose Community Center.
