Memorial Day Ceremony held at Buffalo Legion

On Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, the Buffalo American Legion held a ceremony honoring local fallen heroes. A rainy morning forced the ceremony indoors but didn’t stop members of the community from honoring and remembering the service of our brave military men and women. 

Legion Post 270 Commander Connie Herzog welcomed those in attendance, while Chaplain Gary Johnson opened the ceremony of remembrance with a prayer honoring fallen military members. 

Minnesota District 10 Commander Matt Berens addressed ceremony attendees and shared heartfelt words of gratitude to thank veterans for their service to the United States. Commander Berens spoke about the ultimate sacrifice brave men and women have made throughout America’s history.  “Our freedom isn’t free. It’s made possible by those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice.”

The Buffalo High School band led by director Scott Rabehl played a variety of patriotic songs. Highlights included performances of the “Star-Spangled Banner,” and “America the Beautiful.” 

Members of local boy scout troops placed and arranged flags into a display to honor local military members who have passed away. Placement of the memorial wreath was performed by Sergeant-at-Arms Al Gulden. 

Anita Underberg read the POW/MIA roll call. Names were read out loud to honor each individual. 

Chaplin Gary Johnson closed the ceremony with a final prayer.
