CPKC Holiday Train rolls through Wright County
The Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Holiday Train made its annual stop in Buffalo on Monday, Dec. 15. The train brought holiday cheer with box cars decorated in colorful lights and Christmas themes.
Popular characters such as nutcrackers, snowmen, and, of course, Santa Claus, could be seen as the bright bulbs illuminated the 5th Street NE Railroad Crossing for a festive evening of music and generosity.
Prior to the CPKC stop at the 5th Street crossing, the festive train brought cheer to folks in Loretto, and after leaving Buffalo, made its way down the tracks towards Annandale.
A welcomed warm-up greeted event attendees Monday night after frigid weekend temps blanketed the area on Saturday and Sunday.
Country music artists, Lanco, and Tiera Kennedy, performed numerous holiday classics. The music, coupled with a jolly atmosphere, created a sense of togetherness and joy that resonated with audiences young and old.
Spreading Christmas cheer and entertaining crowds was not the only goal of the Holiday Train; it also had a charitable mission. At each stop, spectators are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items or monetary donations for local food banks.
CPKC works with the local food banks and food pantry groups who organize donation collections in each community the holiday train passes through.
The Holiday Train program has raised more than $26.1 million and 5.4 million pounds of food for North American food banks since 1999. All donations raised at a Holiday Train stop remain in that community.
The CPKC Holiday Train is more than a festive tradition; it’s a rolling reminder of the importance of community togetherness and compassion. By combining the joy of the holiday season with a meaningful purpose, the Holiday Train has become a cherished symbol of spirit and generosity.
Whether people came to see the sparkling lights, enjoy the music, or support the local food bank, the Holiday Train was an experience that captured the true essence of the holidays: connection, giving, and celebration.
