Mary Antil, 56

Mary K. (Hehir) Antil, age 56, of Maple Lake, passed peacefully Sunday, June 14, 2020 at her home on Maple Lake surrounded by family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2020 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Annandale with Fr. John Meyer as the Celebrant. Attendance in the sanctuary will be limited to 90 attendees, the service will be live-streamed through the Dingmann Funeral Care website for those unable to attend. Burial will follow at St. Timothy Catholic Cemetery on County Road 37, northeast of Maple Lake. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Friday, both at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Annandale. Social distancing and face coverings are required by the churches COVID-19 Procedure and Protocol Policy.

Mary Kaye Antil was born October 13, 1963 in Minneapolis to Francis and Charlotte (Masloski) Hehir. She graduated from Annandale High School with the Class of 1981. She continued her education at Willmar Community College, earning an Associate Degree in Accounting. Mary was a successful businesswoman; she worked for various companies as a Software Consultant, and her many achievements eventually earned her the position of Vice President of Sales at Adesso and, most recently, as a Business Solution Consultant with Italian-based company, Kantar, where she was the lead North American representative securing contracts with major retailers. 

On February 21, 1998, Mary was united in marriage to John Thomas Antil at Lord Fletcher’s on Lake Minnetonka. They lived in Maple Grove until moving to the shores of Maple Lake in 2015. Mary loved lake living, boating and cruising on their pontoon. Mary was a motorcycle enthusiast that enjoyed riding her Harley-Davidson. Her passion for traveling reached its peak when Mary met Pope Francis at the Vatican in 2015. She enjoyed spending time in the outdoors and tending to her garden. Mary’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends; she adored her nieces and nephews. Mary cherished her Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Lucy and Annabelle, and, most recently, Bristol. Mary was often found entertaining and gathering with those she loved; the highlight of her entertaining was hosting her family on the Fourth of July. Mary was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church.

Mary is survived by her husband, John; brothers and sister, Tim (Connie) Hehir, of Oak Grove, Steve Hehir (Nancy Peterson), of Dayton, Greg Hehir, of Burnsville, John (Jolene) Hehir of Pequot Lakes, and Nancy (Todd) Gunnerson, of Maple Lake; in-laws, Jackie Berges, of Maple Grove, Julie (Dave) Mansk, of Florida, and Janelle Antil, of Plymouth; nieces and nephews, Jason (Nicole), Chad (Jen), Amy, Sam, Brandon and Kelly Hehir, Jessica (Lee) VanVoorhis, Tiffany Scherer, Lindsey (Matt) Gutsch, and Jenna (Hunter) Thiel; great-nieces and great-nephews, Cooper, Brynn, Macin, Connor, Corey, Theo, Xander, Oaklyn, and Lily.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Charlotte Hehir; brother, Thomas Hehir, and brother-in-law, James Antil.

The casket bearers will be Tim, Steve, Greg, and John Hehir, Todd Gunnerson, and Sam Hart. Krista Elsenpeter and Jacinta Budke will provide the music for the service.

Matthew Barthel, 47

Matthew Leigh Barthel, age 47, of Hawick, Minnesota passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020 at his residence.

He was born on August 23, 1972 in Buffalo, the son of Lowell J. “Pete” & Marlene L. (Schumm) Barthel.

Matt enjoyed being self-employed and had his own e-bay site. He was also fond of gardening and Facebook. We will miss his wonderful personality, warm smile and incredible laugh! His great love for his sweet Mom, old cars, animals, his cherished 1970 Challenger and, of course, small engines and motors. He always talked a lot about all of his all great memories of good times with family and partying with friends.

Matt is survived by his loving mother, Marlene Barthel, of Buffalo; sisters and brothers, Cheryl Feltman, of Howard Lake, Robert Barthel, of Buffalo, Richard Barthel, of Monticello, Mary (Edward) Jacobson, of Waverly, Denise (Wayne) Keeran, of Savage and Troy Barthel, of Maple Lake; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Deborah Hurley; and by his father.

A Private Memorial Service for Matthew L. Barthel will be held on Saturday, June 20 at 1:00 p.m. at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. Father Nathaniel Meyers will officiate.

Donna Goedel, 84

Donna Marie (Gowey) Goedel, age 84, of Buffalo, Minnesota, passed away June 8, 2020, at Park View Care Center.

She was born on September 16, 1935 to Hartlan and Ruth (Silbernagel) Gowey in Medford Township and grew up in Marshfield, Wisconsin. After her high school graduation, she moved to Minneapolis to begin working.

On September 8, 1955, she was joined in marriage to Wayne Goedel in her hometown church in Marshfield. Together, they raised three children in Crystal, MN and eventually made their forever home in Buffalo.

For 20+ years, she was affectionately known as “Miss Donna,” at KidKare.  They referred to her as a craft teaching, scarf making, holiday shirt wearing, lollipop gifting, gum chewing ray of sunshine! 

She loved to crochet and had a tradition of making blankets for each of her grandchildren. She was a fan of country western music, and once when she attended a Garth Brooks concert, she gifted him one of her special crocheted blankets for his new baby! Donna had such a generous heart, that it was no surprise she was loved by so many.

Donna was not just an average Minnesota Twins fan; she was their number one supporter! When the Twins played their first-ever home game in 1961, she was there to cheer them on. Over the last 17 years, she traveled with her daughter and grandson to watch them play in all 30 major league stadiums. Her achievement made the news, she was “circled” by Bert, and she was even honored with a special Twins jersey to commemorate the moment.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; grandson, Tadd Comee; and her parents.

Donna is survived by her children, Kevin (Cindy), Sheryl (Steve) Comee, and Tamara (Brian) Olson; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren with one on the way; sisters, Patricia (Bill) Raab, Joanne Desotelle, Orla Mae Wolski, Mary Lou Gates, and Jane (Dick) Chapel; brother, Gene (Chris) Gowey; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held Wednesday, June 17, 2020 and was private, family only. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 18, 2020 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo, MN at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.

 Richard Henning, 84

Richard “Dick” Henning, age 84, of Watertown, formerly of Maple Plain passed away with family by his side on Monday, June 8, 2020 at his home. He was born to Edwin and Audrey (Thoreson) Henning at Cottage Hospital in Watertown on August 25, 1935. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

Dick attended the Delano Public Schools, graduating in 1953. He married Grace Roeser on January 15, 1955 in Chanhassen, MN. He and Grace enjoyed 65 years of marriage living in the house he built on Copeland Road and raising three daughters and a son.

Dick was a lifelong member of Lyndale Lutheran Church, serving for many years on the church board and Lewis Cemetery board. He was also a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #10 for over 50 years.

Dick was a hard-working man. He could fix anything: cars, tractors, furniture, and shingling his house when he was in his 70’s. He was a talented woodworker, carving fish decoys. In his later years, he took up painting. Dick enjoyed car racing, especially the Indy 500, deer hunting at his farm in Twin Valley and spending time at his cabin on Big Sauk Lake.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Audrey; parents-in-law, Leonard and Lorraine Roeser; grandson, Scott Henning; brother-in-law, Al Klinglehutz; sister-in-law, Elaine Roeser. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Grace; daughters, Danice (John) Motzko, Kathy (Thomas) Huffman, Jodi (Justin Anderson) Henning; son, Steven (Brandi) Henning; nine grandchildren, Caliste Anthony, Amber (Paul) Hedin, Leah (Kenny) Weyandt, Anisha (Mike) Mueller, Angie Henning, Brett Henning, Andrea Henning, Karisa (Matt) Becker, Quentin (Taylor Connor) Motzko; 13 great-grandchildren, Hunter, Helle, Crosby, Hadley, Mason, Cooper, Kellan, Eden, Austin, Lily, Timothy, Brooks and Hunter; brother, Gerald (Janis) Henning; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Stanley (Minerva) Roeser, Mary Klinglehutz, Ronald Roeser, James (Gloria) Roeser, Gregory (Gayle) Roeser, Roy (Terry) Roeser, Cheryl (Richard) Bakke.

A Private Memorial Service was held on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Lyndale Lutheran Church in Lyndale, MN. Inurnment at a later date will be in the Lewis Cemetery in Maple Plain.

Jerome Miller, 83

Jerome (Jerry) LeRoy Miller, age 83, of Golden Valley, MN, died Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Methodist Hospital in St Louis Park, MN, as a result of Covid-19. He was the eldest child born to LeRoy and Helen (Pollock) Miller on April 16, 1937 in Litchfield, MN.

He went to school in Darwin, MN and helped his father on the family farm. After high school, he worked at a taconite plant in Hoyt Lakes, MN.  He met Patricia Round, and they married on April 4, 1959 at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Hoyt Lakes.

Jerry and Pat raised their family in Golden Valley, MN and moved to Buffalo, MN shortly after retirement. Recently, they moved to Global Pointe Senior Living in Golden Valley. Jerry worked as a union floor coverer for 34 years - retiring in 1999 and was an honorary member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters for 54 years, 10 months. He volunteered as a fire fighter for the Golden Valley Fire Department for 20 years and remains a hero to his children. Jerry was a member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered at his parish for many years. He and Pat belonged to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo, MN.  

During his free time, he enjoyed duck and pheasant hunting with his sons and brother, David, golfing with friends, watching baseball, camping, and fishing. Jerry and Pat enjoyed traveling to various countries, eventually spending winters in Florida. While in Florida, Jerry loved biking down to the jetty to watch the cruise ships and fish off the pier.

Jerry was a reserved gentle man that was loved greatly by many. He will be missed deeply by his wife, Patricia Carol Miller of 61 years; his children, Peggy Grap, Neillsville, WI, Mary (Jack) Carter, Peabody, MA, Timothy Miller, Corcoran, MN, and Jeffrey (Ronda) Miller, Minneapolis, MN; his grandchildren, Kaleb Grap, Logan (Katie) Grap, Raymond Carter, Maddie and Garrett Miller, Grant, Gavin and Ava Miller; his great- grandchildren, Layla and Eddie Grap; his siblings, Joan Boerner, Marlene Price, Janet (Denny) Sturm, David (Sue) Miller, Patty (Carl) Niemand and Sharon (Steve) Onnen; his brothers-in-law, Don (Juanita) and Tom (Karen) Round, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Helen Miller; parents-in-law, Harold and Margaret Round; sister, Mary; and brother, William Miller.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date and interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Darwin, MN.

Gary Schnitker, 76

Gary E. Schnitker, age 76, of Edina, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2020 at home surrounded by loved ones. 

An ENT surgeon for 40 years, he was dedicated to the health and well-being of his Minneapolis and Buffalo patients.

Gary’s passions included refinishing antique wooden boats with his boat buddies, scuba diving dozens of Caribbean reefs, and serving as a racetrack doctor at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI. The car he admired most was a 1965 427 Shelby Cobra.

Raised in Toledo, OH, educated at Oberlin College and Temple University Medical School, he was yet a lifelong University of Michigan sports fan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Claudia; daughters, Karen Schnitker and Laura Schnitker (Mary Switalski); sister, Carolyn Ballard; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

A private family memorial service was held on June 12, 2020. Memorial donations preferred to Hospice Foundation of America.
