Stephen Aanerud, 59

Stephen Paul Aanerud was born on August 19, 1960, to Robert and Dorothy (Weaver) Aanerud at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.  Steve, as he liked to be called, graduated in 1979 from Monticello High School. He never married and was a member of the Maple Lake Baptist Church.

Steve loved animals, especially Bella, his beloved Basset Hound. Steve filled his home with pictures and figurines of wolves, eagles and many more. Steve loved classic country music and being outdoors with nature.

Steve passed away January 14, 2020, at Alomere Health in Alexandria due to poor health and complications that he had battled for a year. He was 59 years of age.  He  was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Aanerud; two nephews; and his beloved Basset Hound. Steve is survived by two sisters, Robin (Gary) Black and Cindy Dumpprope; two brothers, Mike (Becky) and Danny Aanerud, and many nephews and nieces and three great nieces.

Stephen will be greatly missed by many!

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2020, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.  Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Marjory Aldrich, 82

Marjory Ellen Aldrich, age 82, of Corcoran, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2020. She was born August 19, 1937 in Buffalo, the daughter of Frank and Majel (nee Johnston) Aldrich.

She was a 1955 graduate from Buffalo High School. She enjoyed her jobs as a lab tech at the Buffalo Clinic for many years and in the Emergency Room at General Hospital. She also worked in Planning and Zoning at the Wright County Courthouse.

Marge spent the rest of her life helping others. She became the CEO and started the group Victims Against Professional Abuse helping many men and women along the way.

She enjoyed writing and had the surname of Dergen Chase, reading, sewing, ironing, and spending time with her family and friends. She was the anchor of her family and loved by many.

In April of 1956, Marjory Aldrich and Ronnie DeMarais were united in marriage. The two were blessed with two daughters, Shawn and Denielle.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Majel Aldrich; sister, Janice Stepp; and granddaughter, Mandi McManus-Forsberg.

Marge will be deeply missed by her daughters, Shawn DeMarais (Craig Anderson), Denielle “Dee” McManus; son-in-law, Dave McManus; grandchildren, Kendra, Kellie, Rachel, Amber, Brandie, Austin, Jesse; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry (Marlene) Aldrich; beloved cats, Ringo and Pepé; and other family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 23, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, at Buffalo Presbyterian Church in Buffalo. A private family burial will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Buffalo.

Russell Berthiaume, 60

Russell William Berthiaume, age 60, of Wadena, and formerly of Wright County, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2020, at his residence.

He was born on March 1, 1959, in Monticello, the son of Raymond “Shorty” and Leone A. (Kalway) Berthiaume.

He was employed as a carpenter.

Survived by four daughters: Rachel, Anna, Danielle and Mariah; grandchildren; siblings: Michael (Linda) Berthiaume, of Rockford, Eleanor Berthiaume, of Florida, Carol Berthiaume, of Hewitt, Leone Anderson, of Annandale, Peggy (Marvid) Skeslein, of Buffalo, Rose (Kevin) Rasset, of Montrose and Pamela Kummer, of Crystal; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Raymond Jr., William, Jerry, Francis and Dale Berthiaume.

A Memorial service for Russell Berthiaume will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.  Pastor Dean Brown will officiate.

Interment Lakeview Cemetery.

A visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to services.

James Sargent, 72

James Allen Sargent, age 72, of Buffalo passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2020.

He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on June 17, 1947, the son of Lavon and Vera (Irwin) Sargent.

He honorably served in the United States Navy.

Employed for many years as a carpenter for Minneapolis Public Housing.

He was a former Boy Scout leader.  James enjoyed camping, campfires, canoeing in the Boundary Waters, hunting, fishing and building things.  

Survived by loving daughter: Nicole (Dave Lakabung) Sargent, of Buffalo; grandsons: Alex and Cody, plus a number of untold grandkids; loving relatives: Diane and Al Gapinski, of Buffalo; three nephews: Corey (Colleen) Sargent, of Florida, Eric Sargent, of Blaine and Jacob Gapinski, of Buffalo; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by a son, Jason; his parents; two brothers, Larry and Roger Sargent; and former parents-in-law, Murley and Jean Olson.

A visitation for James Sargent will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2020, from 2-4 p.m., at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo.

Leonard Schaust, 87

Leonard Peter Schaust, “Len,” age 87, of Delano, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 on the Original Homestead family farm.  He was born April 28, 1932 to Anthony and Elizabeth (Pogreba) Schaust in Franklin Township. 

Len was a faith-filled Christian man who instilled the importance of faith in his family.  He was a lifelong member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano.  Len was united in marriage to Maxine Veronica Wurm on August 11, 1954 at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Maple Lake, and to this union six children were blessed.

Len’s favorite things in life revolved around his family and his farm.  He and Maxine cherished their family and loved having them all together on the farm.  He possessed true grit and an internal strength that allowed him to face many challenges right up to his final breath.  Len had a sharp wit and was known to give the “one liners.”  He and Max always had time for a polka or a game of euchre.  The grandchildren and great-grandchildren were blessings to him, and he always gave thanks to the Lord for these and all the many blessings bestowed upon himself and his family.

Len was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Maxine Schaust, on September 10, 2019; infant daughter;  twin grandsons, Cole and Chase Grams;  grandson, Payton Schaust;  parents, Anthony and Elizabeth Schaust; brothers, Anthony Schaust, Joseph Schaust, Loren  Schaust and George Schaust; sisters, Matilda Florek,  Betty  Gabrelcik, and Leona Fake; brothers-in-law, John Florek, George Fake, Rich Gabrelcik, Glen Litfin and Bob Farniok; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Schaust and Joan Schaust. 

He is survived by his children:  Leonard (Laurie) Schaust  Jr., Luann (Dale) Hoese, Gary (Deb) Schaust, Sandy (Rick) Grams, Betty (Charlie) Checkal, David (Shellie) Schaust; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren;  brother, Matt Schaust; sisters, Arlene Litfin, Genevieve Farniok; sisters-in-law, Deloris Schaust, Estelle Schaust, and Lorraine Schaust.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano. Visitation took place from 4-8 pm on Monday and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday in Martha’s Hall of St. Peter Catholic Church. Rosary Service was at 3:30 pm and a Prayer Service at 7:45 p.m. on Monday in Martha’s Hall of the St. Peter Catholic Church. Interment was in the Calvary Cemetery in Delano.

Cindy Solien, 59

Cindy Solien, age 59, of St. Michael, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2020, after a sudden and serious illness.

A Mother, Nana, Daughter, Sista, Auntie, Friend and Caregiver, Cindy was an avid Vikings fan. She lived her life to help and care for others, cheer on the Minnesota Vikings, collect anything with dragonflies and frogs, chickens and Mickey Mouse. The leader of the pack, Cindy was the oldest of four children of Vern and Claire Solien (Buffalo, Minnesota).

Daughter of Claire and Vern Solien of Buffalo; Mom to Sarah (Junior) Geislinger, of Watkins; Jordan (Liz) Danielson, of Hutchinson; Danny (Alyssa) Callahan, of Delano; Nana to Brooke, Ethan, Henry, Emmitt, Kaydence, Layla; Sista to Pam (Rick) Brittan; Tim Solien and Janelle (Jared) Mutterer; Auntie to Theresa (Ed) Hugener and family; Jason (Amanda) Klein and family; Maci and Mara, Hayden and Chloe. Cindy had countless other non-traditional family members whom she considered as part of her family.

She was preceded in death by her nephew, Hayden.

A memorial service was held on Sunday, January 19, 2020. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
