Tip: Don't forget your bulbs

Life gets busy and sometimes spring bulbs like tulips and daffodils get forgotten on the potting bench. While not ideal, you can still plant them as long as the soil is not frozen. Hardy bulbs need a cold period (think winter) in order to prompt blooming. You can force bulbs by potting them, putting the pot in the refrigerator, and placing them in a sunny window about 12 weeks later. You can also keep them in moist peat moss in a refrigerator for the winter and plant them in the spring. It's best to get these bulbs planted by late September or early October, but you can try these methods if you get behind in your fall planting.
