Obituaries 9/12/19

Antoinette Anderson, 71

Antoinette Louise “Toni” Steckler Anderson left us all on September 2, 2019.

A memorial of her life and sharing of memories was held Saturday September 7, 2019 at The Peterson Chapel in St. Michael, at 2:00 p.m. Memorial gifts will be donated to CMT research in Toni’s name.

Toni was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson on September 24, 1947 to Edward M. and Doris M. (Wilhelm) Steckler. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Grade School, Trinity High School and Dickinson State College (now DSU).   Toni was a career teacher of language, lover of music and all things bright and lively, and lifelong friend to everyone she would meet.

After graduating from college, she embarked on her career that would bring her countless friends and students forever left with the indelible mark of Toni on their lives. From Larimore and Beach, ND to Blaine, MN, Toni spent her entire career bringing her love of foreign languages to children that would cherish her experiences throughout their life. Showing her intrepid confidence, she even navigated classes of students abroad in Spain and Mexico with family in tow.

After marriage to Gerald, they welcomed their son Jared into the world in 1978 and moved to Anoka. A more devoted mother there could not be. For the next 40 years, she would attend countless concerts, musicals, sports games, and more, bringing as much of the world to her son as she possibly could.

Their house in Anoka would become a reflection of her personality. Filled to the brim with the things that gave her joy and inspired memories and treasured moments. To see her collections was to peer inside her mind - often mistaken for clutter - EVERYTHING had its place, and all had their meaning.

Her love of teaching and music could only be matched by her love for her family.  An ever-devoted sister and daughter, Toni spent much of her later years caring for her little sister, Bert through the grueling trials of brain cancer, and her father in nursing care.

When her son and daughter-in-law welcomed Liam to the world and later Noah, Toni discovered her new calling! There was never a major event or the significance of the trivial that she wouldn’t want to hear every last detail about. Her grandkids had become her motivation for existence.

Many a lasting memory would be made at the lake, in their homes, or via FaceTime - always with phone in hand to capture the smallest detail of their exploration of this world. From her beloved North Dakota home to Minnesota, Toni defined her life by always doing things her way.  Bartender (yes, that’s right) to teacher, sister to grandmother, daughter to mother, Toni was Toni. Behind the piano or the teacher’s desk, she always sought to liven the mood of wherever she would find herself.

Toni was preceded in death by: her mother, Doris Mae; her father, Edward Martin “Eddie” Steckler,; and her sister, Roberta Alice “Bert” Steckler.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald Anderson; son, Jared (wife ~ Teresa) Anderson, Greenfield; and her beloved grandchildren Liam (8) and Noah (5), and countless friends, relatives, former students and colleagues who will dearly miss her zeal for life, unstoppable storytelling, ability to break into song at a moment’s notice and dynamic personality.

Without a doubt, the world grew a little quieter on Monday. A sassy, loving spirit left this world to watch and protect us from the next, and we will all deeply miss her! In the words of one of her favorite singers, Buddy Holly, let us simply say, “Rave On!” Toni - we will carry your spirit and energy with us forever!

Harry was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at Blessed Sacrament Church in Greenbush, Minnesota and where he also attended school at Greenbush High School.

Growing up, Harry lived on the family farm, helping with all the chores and fieldwork. Harry spent several harvest falls picking potatoes around the Karlstad area, and later worked for a farmer in North Dakota.

While working in North Dakota, Harry met, Darlene G. Dafault. The two were later married on July 27, 1955 in Grafton and they were blessed with two children, Mary Jo and Harry Frank Kalinowski Jr. They made their home in St. Paul, Minnesota, where Harry worked as a trucker. Later, the two moved to California where Harry worked at Steelcase, and on the weekends worked for Mobil Gas Station in Buena Park, California.

Dancing brought them all together with many friends, and the opportunity to meet new friends. Harry’s second passion was fishing.

When he retired, he spent six months out of the year back in Minnesota with his kids fishing for walleye. When Harry wasn’t found fishing, Harry and Addy would be found dancing and living the good life. Harry lost his second wife, Adeline Kalinowski, in 2011.

In 2017, Harry suffered a stroke while fishing in Canada and was not able to live alone anymore, so he moved to Buffalo, to live with his daughter. After more intense health issues, Harry moved to Park View Care Center in Buffalo for the last year of his life.
