Gary Megaw, 79

Gary Woodrow Megaw, age 79 of Buffalo, Minnesota, passed away December 3, 2022. 

He was born on August 6, 1943, in Mankato, Minnesota to Woodrow and Elnora (Olson) Megaw. He grew up in Good Thunder, Minnesota and attended high school there. He was a graduate with the class of 1961. 

Gary was drafted to serve in the United States Army. He was inducted in March of 1965 and was honorably discharged in March of 1967 with a SP5 (T) rank. 

On July 25, 1970, he was joined in marriage to RaVae Hiller in Waconia, Minnesota. Together they raised three children: Monte, Hanni, and Ryan. Gary and his family resided in Montrose before making their forever home in Buffalo, MN. 

Gary was employed with Hennepin County in road maintenance, he retired after 31 years. As a person who always needed to be doing something, he continually found ways to work after his retirement. He owned GT Auto Sales, worked at Nord Excavating for 4 years, and worked for his good friends Gene and Brad Hayes, driving gravel truck for 9 years.  He officially retired 2 years ago. He loved to stay active and busy. 

In his spare time, Gary enjoyed anything car and racing related. He went to drag races, watched NASCAR, and motocross.  He had a great vegetable garden.  He spent much of his time, however, being his grandchildren’s biggest supporter for all their school and sporting activities. Being a papa was the best title he had; he was always there to watch them grow.  He especially enjoyed taking them on golf cart and scooter rides.

Gary was known for his quiet and easy-going personality. He had a kind and generous soul; he was a person that you could always count on. He never asked for anything in return and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was reliable, hardworking, and always made time for family and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Elnora; brothers, Don and Kenneth, sister-in law Judy; and parents-in-law, Walter and Violet Hiller, brothers-in-law Conley and Jim Hiller, and sister-in-law Margaret Hiller.

He is survived by his loving wife, RaVae; children, Monte (Hally), Hanni (Kurt) Lommel, and Ryan (Valerie); grandchildren, Clay, Haley, Samuel, Nicholas, Emmit, Owen, Ian, Colin, Gavin, and Jayden; sister-in-law, Karen Megaw, brother-in-law Monte Hiller, and sister-in-law Flossy Hiller; Willie the cat; and many other relatives and friends. 

Memorial Service will be held Monday, December 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Buffalo. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. at church.

Burial will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers: memorials preferred to charity of family’s choice.

Verna Quale, 83

Verna M. Quale (Salmela) age 83 of Buffalo, formerly of Delano, passed away December 10, 2022, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Verna was born May 26, 1939 to Richard and Fannie (Wanha) Salmela in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She grew up with her four siblings in Cokato, Minnesota. She graduated from Cokato High School in 1957.

Verna married the love of her life, Dennis Quale, on January 2, 1960 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. From this union, they were blessed with three children. The family moved to Delano in 1970.

Verna was a hard worker with many talents. From detasseling corn as a child, to her time as a local Burnett Realty agent, to her many years with McGlynn’s/Pillsbury. She was a very active member of the Delano community. She is a former member of the Delano City Council, Delano American Legion Auxiliary, and the Delano 4th of July Queen Committee.

Verna was affectionately known to her grandchildren as Grams. She was our light and was so loved; she will be thoroughly missed and never forgotten. Fond memories with Grandma Quale include sleepovers in our glow-in-the-dark sleeping bags, making and enjoying homemade doughnuts, after dinner ice cream sundaes while watching Wheel of Fortune and of course, playing cards. Just when we thought we were her greatest joy, she was blessed with two great-grandchildren. They were the apple of her eye.

Verna was a puzzle aficionado. She did daily crosswords, sudoku and cryptoquip. Countless games of Words with Friends (no, really, countless!) She loved watching the game show network and her nightly Wheel of Fortune. She was an avid card player. You could catch her at the Delano Wednesday euchre game at the Legion or playing 500 at her sister’s house.

Verna fought fiercely to the end and was able to check off many important 2022 family milestones.

Verna is survived by her two daughters, Robin (Tony) Rousseau, LeeAnn Oberaigner (Jeff Kowalski); five grandchildren, Brittany Oberaigner, Kelli (Todd) Kurtz, Ryan Quale (Malerie Henschel), Kami (Seth) Schnell, Connie (Dylan) Dahlheimer; two great-grandchildren Lauren Pitan, Bridger Schnell; one sister, Margaret (Muggs) Kieser. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis; infant daughter Penny; brothers Clifford, Jimmie, and Clarence (Kelly).

Memorial Service 1:30 pm Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano. Visitation prior from 11am to 1:30pm. Inurnment at Fort Snelling at a later date. The family invites all to a luncheon at Iten’s following the service.   The Memorial service will be livestreamed on the Iten Funeral Home YouTube page.

Allison Roosevelt, 63

Our dear wife, sister, niece, cousin, aunt, and friend Allison “Ali” Roosevelt passed away on December 2, in Tucson, Arizona with her husband Mark by her side. Allison struggled with Multiple Sclerosis for many years and is now dancing with the angels.

She was born to Milton and Karen Vraspir in St. Louis Park, MN on September 21, 1959. She grew up in Rockford, MN and graduated from Rockford High School in 1978. She went on to attend Minneapolis Technical College where she earned her Licensed Practical Nurse Certificate. She also served for a short time in the United States Navy Reserve as a Hospital Corpsman.

Allison was loved by her many residents as well as fellow staff members at the nursing homes where she was employed. Allison married Mark Roosevelt on June 20, 1992, and they spent their time together in Minneapolis, St. Paul and Tucson, AZ. Mark and Allison enjoyed travel and visited several places in Mexico, The Caribbean and even went to South Korea together.

Allison is survived by her husband, Mark; sister, Corinne (Keith) Marks; brothers, Dana (Tammy) Vraspir and Jess (Trish) Vraspir, many nieces and nephews, cousins and aunts and uncles. Allison was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Karen and her grandparents and beloved fur babies. The family would like to thank the staff at Comfort Gardens who lovingly cared for her the past 22 months, in addition to TMC Hospice who also cared for her these past four months.

Visitation and Memorial Service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 241 5th Ave. N., Hopkins, MN, Friday, December 16, 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Visitation at the church. 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service at the church. Luncheon to follow in the church fellowship hall.

 


Brian Stuckmayer, 49

Brian Jay Stuckmayer, age 49, of Rockford, passed away on October 26, 2022, at The Estates of Delano.

He was born in Minneapolis on June 4, 1973, the son Richard and JoAnne (Gladwin) Stuckmayer.

Brian was formerly employed with his father in the fabrication of sheet metal.

He enjoyed fishing with his son, Tristin.

Brian was also fond of playing the guitar, playing pool, and working on autos.

Survived by his father, Richard (Mary) Stuckmayer; his mother, JoAnne (Larry) Schermerhorn; a son: Tristin; a brother, Chris (Melisa) Stuckmayer; a sister, Megan (James) Lehrke; a niece, Paige Jernberg; nephews, Tyler, Sam, and Gabe Stuckmayer; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his grandparents, Wayne Stuckmayer and Doris Stuckmayer, Robert Gladwin and Bernice Gladwin.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at Riverwood Covenant Church, 7189 69th Avenue N., Rockford, Minnesota.
