Hanover Society hosts suffragist exhibit

August 26, 2020 marked the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage – on that day in 1920, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was signed into law, giving women the right to vote.

To commemorate the celebration, the League of Women Voters of Minnesota put together a traveling exhibit available for all historical societies in the state to host for their community.

Though COVID delayed the timeline for the exhibit, the Hanover Historical Society finally had their turn to display the exhibit at the Hanover Area History Center, the former Zion Methodist Church, (1010 River Road NE) that they recently moved into.

With their two weeks of offering the free exhibit for the public wrapping up Thursday, May 20, here’s a peek at what was included.

More to offer...

Though the suffragist exhibit will soon be on its way to the next historical society, The Hanover Area History Center has its own exhibits to share with the community.

Prior to their move to their new location, the Historical Society met at City Hall, the majority of artifacts and local history in storage due to a lack of space. Now, all of the exhibits are featured in glass display cases throughout the building, sharing about the city’s history over  the years, from the first settlers to the centennial celebration in 1991.

Local history enthusiasts are sure to enjoy a trip to the History Center to soak up information about the city they call home – be sure to keep an eye out for information about the Society’s annual ice cream social this summer!
