Despite unlucky weather, St. Patrick’s Day tradition continued

Maple Lake held its annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration on Saturday, March 11. Events included a craft fair from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Grande Day Parade at 1:30 p.m., and the Irish Scamper 5K at 9:00 a.m.

The parade traveled down Division Street, took a left on Maple Avenue South, took another left on First Street West and continued down the road to finish. The parade lasted about an hour.

The Maple Lake Community has gathered together to celebrate its Irish Heritage every year since 1977. This was the 46th annual celebration. People wore their best green outfits, green hats and wigs, and some even wore traditional Irish clothing, including kilts.

The gathering was perfect for families to experience a bit of Irish culture. Luckily, the snow during the parade didn’t seem to bother spectators. Many bundled up and braved the weather to enjoy the festivities.
