Celebration of Life for Richard O. Arne, 87, of Delano will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Klobe Maximilian on the river (St. Peter), 204 River St. So., Delano.

Visitation 10:00-11:00 a.m., Mass 11:00 a.m. Lunch at Delano Sportsmen’s Club, 4505 County Rd 50, Delano.

Shirley Erickson, 91

Shirley Ann (Johnson) Erickson, 91, of Buffalo, died at home on February 25, 2020 with her son by her side.

Shirley was born October 11, 1928 in St. Cloud, the daughter of the late Oscar and Susan (Weber) Johnson and the second of four children. When she was 14, the family moved to St. Paul.

She married Maurice Erickson of Buffalo, on August 27, 1949. The couple lived in Buffalo all their married life and there they raised their children, Michael and Diane.

As a young mother, Shirley used her impeccable seamstress skills to design and sew clothing for her family and her daughter’s dolls. On winter Sundays, she often made chicken soup (with homemade hand cut noodles) while her kids watched Shirley Temple movies on TV. She enjoyed puzzles, board games, and pancakes on Saturday mornings. She loved to sing while washing the dishes and taught her daughter great oldies like “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” “When the Red Red Robin Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbin’ Along” and “I’m My Own Grandpa.” She was great on the harmony!

Shirley loved to decorate and maintain her home. Her apple collection was artfully displayed in her kitchen. She had apple paintings, apple dishes, apple towels, apple pot holders, an apple clock, red apples, green apples, wooden apples, porcelain apples……

The apple of her eye was her beloved granddaughter, Angela, who gave her so much joy.

Shirley was a dedicated nursing assistant at Park View Care Center in Buffalo, for 20+ years. She also sewed children’s clothing at Wonderalls for many years.

She worked hard and excelled at all she did.

In her retirement years, she lived to play cards and laugh with her friends at Tower Hill.

She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo.

Shirley was preceded in death by: her husband, Maurice Erickson; parents, Oscar and Susan Johnson; brother, Norman Johnson; and brother-in-law, Louis Bader.

She is survived by: her son, Michael (Heidi) Erickson and granddaughter, Angela Erickson of Greenfield; daughter, Diane (Lee) Schneider of Millarville, Alberta, Canada; sister, Muriel (Bob) Chakich of Richfield; sister, Nyla Bader of Orono; sister-in-law, Darlene (Dale) Erickson of Buffalo; and many nieces and nephews.

Rest in peace dear Mother, Grandma, Sister, and Friend. We will miss you.

Visitation was held Wednesday, March 4, 2020 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Peterson Chapel, 119 Central Ave, Buffalo. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1200 Hwy. 25 S, Buffalo. Burial will follow at the Swedesburg Lutheran Cemetery, rural Waverly.

 


Evelyn Fenske, 85

Evelyn Sophia Fenske, age 85, of Watertown passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo.

She was born on August 10, 1934 at home in Winsted, the fifth child to Andy and Mary (Neumann) Artmann.

Evelyn was baptized and confirmed at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.

She graduated from 8th grade at Holy Trinity Catholic School in 1948 and from 12th grade at Holy Trinity Catholic School in 1952.

Evelyn grew up on a farm five miles west of Winsted.

Evelyn married Glen Fenske on April 18, 1953 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. They lived in Excelsior until 1964 when they purchased a farm two miles south of Delano, where their six children enjoyed the beauty and freedom of a rural farming community and raising of lots of animals. Their six children Bonnie, Phyllis, Yvonne, Dean, Patricia and Susan all graduated from Delano High School, and the family all belonging to St. Peter Catholic Church.

Evelyn loved her vegetable garden and also her raspberries and strawberry patches, allowing her to can and freeze all she wanted to.

After her children were grown, she worked for Mackenthun’s Grocery Store in Waconia for almost 25 years.

She loved people, but most of all, she loved her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, especially celebrating years of holidays at her house, Thanksgiving and Christmas cooking and baking lots and lots of treats for them.

She also had a photography hobby, and her camera was always with her. To date, 67 albums, and very carefully put together and organized.

She also loved sewing, embroidering and playing cards and Scrabble. You could stop by, and she always had something baked to serve you with coffee, tea or milk and enjoying many conversations.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Glen of fifty-four years; her parents, Andy and Mary Artmann; four brothers, Jerome, Clarence, Ron and Clem; three sisters, Dorothy and Mary Ellen Artmann and Lucille Hausladen; six sisters-in-law, Edith Artmann, Carol Ann Artmann, Mildred Artmann, Delores Gaethke, Mavis Fenske and Eldora Fenske; brothers-in-law, Leonard Oestreich, Gilbert, Willard, Vernon, Melvin, Myron and Kenneth Fenske, Wallace Gaethke and Don Hausladen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Ida Fenske; great nephews, Bob and Jerry Brust; great niece Barb Rierson; nephews, Howard Hausladen and Rick Gaethke; and also nieces, Donna Hausladen and Annie Roepke.

She is survived by: her six children, Bonnie (Alan) Czanstkowski, of Delano, Phyllis Momanyi, of Bloomington, Yvonne (Gary) O’Brien, of Buffalo, Dean Fenske, of Howard Lake, Patty (Tim) Speckel and Susan (Elgin) Yates, all of Buffalo; eighteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Artmann, of Silver Lake and Marlene Oestreich, of Waconia; nieces, nephews and many friends.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Evelyn Sophia Fenske was held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown. Father Jim Devorak was the Celebrant. Inurnment followed at Immaculate Conception Cemetery. A time of gathering was held on Saturday morning, February 29, from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass at the church.

Urn Bearer was her son, Dean Fenske.

Roger Grant, 91

Roger A. Grant, age 91, of Buffalo, died Friday, February 14, 2020 at Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2020 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Community, in Wayzata, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Fr. Michael Van Sloun will be the Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Minneapolis. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Wayzata Municipal Liquor bar following the burial from 3-5 p.m. Memorials are preferred to Anna Marie’s Alliance in St. Cloud.

Roger Alan Grant was born February 16, 1928, in Fairmont, to Norman and Ethel (Weigand) Grant. He grew up in Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont High School. Roger continued his education by earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He served his county in Italy during WWII in the U.S. Army. Roger was united in marriage to Carolyn Rudolph in Fairmont; they were blessed with 62 years together and two children. Roger worked in sales at Massey Ferguson for many years. He enjoyed being in the outdoors, hunting and fishing. In his later years, he made an impact by charming his wonderful caregivers at Lake Ridge Care Center.

Roger is survived by: his son, Gary (Barb Vizenor), of Clearwater; daughter, Liz Leeds, of Vail, CO; three grandchildren, Broby Leeds, Gabriela Leeds, and Rebecca Grant; great-granddaughter Aspyn Ludenia; and sister, Judy Stang, of Madison, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; granddaughter, Jessica Ludenia; and brother, David Grant.

The urn bearers will be Gabriela Leeds and Becca Grant. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Maple Lake.

Richard Jenson, 89

Richard Charles Jenson, age 89, of Buffalo, passed away on February 23, 2020. 

He was born on October 4, 1930 in Minneapolis, the son of Oscar and Nellie Jenson.  He was the last surviving child of four. 

On December 27, 1963, Richard Jenson and Patricia Boyd were united in marriage.  They were blessed with one daughter, Tina, on September 12, 1967.

Dick was employed as a master level clinical psychologist with the State Department, Richfield schools, and ended his career with Hopkins schools. 

Dick loved Jesus Christ and spent his life serving through music with his loving wife, Pat. He sang tenor in choirs and was a gifted pianist, organist and a short career on the banjo.

He is survived by: his wife, Patricia; his daughter, Tina Jenson Lueck (Gary); and several nieces and nephews, as well as sisters and brothers-in-law.

Dick was a gentle, kind, and loving man to relatives and friends. Their home was always open to sharing dinners Dick often prepared and baked his special sweet tooth desserts.  He was gifted with a marvelous sense of humor.

Dick was an honored Lieutenant at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Thursday, February 27, 2020 with a military service.

A special life celebration will be held at Riverwood Covenant Church in Rockford, Minnesota on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.

Erick Johnson, 92

Erick Ronald Johnson, age 92, of Buffalo passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born January 16, 1928 in Stutsman County, North Dakota, the son of Erick Ronald Johnson, Sr., and Millie (Nordby).

Erick served in the United States Army for three years in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant in 1953.

Erick attended the University of North Dakota on the GI Bill. He was a Bartender and Taxi Driver before starting as a salesman at Baker Manufacturing in 1957, a wholesale plumbing and heating supply company. Erick worked for Baker for most of his career and retired from the company in the early 1990’s.

Erick loved socializing with family and friends. He took up golf, bowling, and pool after retiring to Arizona, still playing pool (and beating his daughter) into his 90’s.

Erick was preceded in death by: his first wife, Adeline Kienzle Johnson; siblings Theodore (Agnes), Ralph (Lorraine), Grace Felton (Ed), Irene Moni (Doug), Mayme Buschbacher (Eddie), and sister-in-law Ardis Johnson.

He is survived by: his current wife, Betty Johnson; brother Andrew; children, Ron (Jennifer Hausler); Karen Christian (Bruce); Cindy Mark (Chris); step-son, Bill Schroeder; grandchildren, Alex Johnson, Emily Johnson (Samantha Hammerly), Blake Christian, Brianna Christian (fiancé Josh Lennox), Ethan Mark, and Simon Mark; step-grandchildren, William Schroeder, Lynsey Schroeder, Sara Schroeder, Tina Register (Thad), Laurie Brand (Todd), and Natasha Roberts (Mike); many nieces and nephews; and eleven step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m., at Park View Care Center in Buffalo. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Hanover.

The family would like to thank everyone at Park Terrace Assisted Living, Park Terrace Memory Care, and Park View Care Center. The staff has been an extended part of our family, and we took comfort in knowing such caring people were looking after our Dad. We could not have asked for a better place for him to be.

Shirley Mahoney, 83

Shirley Ann Mahoney, age 83, of Buffalo, passed away on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at her residence.

She was born on April 30, 1936 in Marysville Township, Wright County the daughter of Ervin and Evelyn (Marquette) Vieau.

Shirley graduated from Buffalo High School in 1954.

On September 15, 1956, Shirley Ann Vieau and John H. Mahoney were joined in holy marriage at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo.  God blessed their marriage with a son.

She was employed for many years at Persian Business Machines, then later in an orthodontist office and finally at Dr. Marine’s dental office before retiring. 

Shirley was a faithful member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo.

She enjoyed golfing, biking, dancing, snowmobiling and walking, as was also an avid reader. Shirley was also fond of watching her son Michael play hockey. She loved her family and always supported her husband and son in their interests and activities.  Shirley was very close to her sister, Sharon, and they shared a special relationship.

For several years after retirement, Shirley and John wintered in Sun City, Arizona.  John preceded his wife in death on April 7, 2017.

She is survived by: a loving son, Michael John Mahoney, of Trabuco Canyon, California; a sister, Sharon (Ron) Bruhn, of Buffalo; a brother, Robert (Janice) Vieau, of Hamel; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by: a brother, Donald Vieau; and by her parents.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley Mahoney will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo. Father Nathaniel Meyers will be the Celebrant. Inurnment will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.

A visitation was held on Wednesday, March 4 from 4-8 p.m. at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. A Prayer Service was held at 7:00 p.m. Further visitation will be held on Thursday morning, March 5 one hour prior to Mass at the church.

Kathryn Shadduck, 73

Kathryn “Kathy” Cameron Shadduck passed away in her home February 23, 2020.

Kathy was born on February 8, 1947 in Grafton, ND, and graduated high school in Thief River, MN. She went on to become an RN. Her nursing profession carried throughout all aspects of her life.

She was preceded in death by: her best friend and husband of 35 years, William (Bill) Shadduck; father, Lauchlin “Sonny”; mother, Evangeline Cameron; and sister, Sandra Erickson.

Kathy loved her lake home in Annandale. She was a very loving, caring, and special person with an infectious laugh that always brought a ray of sunshine and laughter to a room. Most who met her never forgot her for that simple reason. She enjoyed every living thing, nature, agate hunting, and time spent on the North Shore of Lake Superior. After the loss of her husband, she moved to ND to be closer to her siblings. She volunteered at Circle of Friends Humane Society and Altru Hospital. She was passionate about the dachshunds she had through her life and loved them dearly, especially Oscar and Sophie. She will be deeply missed by all fortunate enough to have known her. She was a truly remarkable person. We celebrate her life, knowing that she is now in heaven next to those that she has missed and loved so dearly.

Kathy is survived by: her brother, David (Rebecca) Cameron; brother-in-law, Paul Erickson; niece, Kristen (Brent) Vik; and great-nephew, Alec Erickson. Kathy is also survived by Bill’s family:  daughters, Sue (Steve) Vergin, Deb Janiak, and Bonnie Shadduck; grandchildren, Cassie (Adam) Vergin-Michl, Mandy Vergin, Jason (Laura) McIntyre, Jordan (Savannah) Janiak, Jillian (Bradley) Huston, Andrew Nutter, Ryan (Angela) Nutter, and Ashley (Callie) Skaja; great-grandchildren, Bree, Lydia and Elijah Michl, Paxton McIntyre, Emerson Nutter and many other relatives and friends. 

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks. Visitation begins at 1 p.m.

 


Helen Weidenbach, 83

Helen M. Weidenbach, age 83, of Monticello passed away peacefully in her sleep early Friday morning, February 28, 2020.

Helen was preceded in death by: her husband, Vern Weidenbach; parents, John and Bea Sullivan; and by a brother, John Sullivan.

She is survived by: her loving children, Joan Koch, Mike Weidenbach, Julie Lebahn (Jim), Lisa Olson (Dave) and Steve Weidenbach (Tammy); 11 grandchildren, nine-and-one-half great-grandchildren; brothers, Tom Sullivan (MaryAnn) and Steve Sullivan (Jan); other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020, 4-8 p.m. at the church with a prayer service 7:00 p.m. Further visitation will be at the church Friday morning, March 6, one hour prior to Mass. Mass of Christian Burial for Helen Weidenbach will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 6, at St. Albert’s Catholic Church in Albertville.
