Valtimere LePage, 82

Valtimere “Val” “Pooch” LePage, husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa, age 82, of Waverly, Minnesota passed away peacefully at home surrounded by wife and family on February 27, 2021.

Val was born on September 19, 1938, in Waverly, to Valtimere and Genevieve (Karels) LePage. He grew up in Waverly and lived his entire life there.

Val attended St. Mary’s School and graduated in 1957, which was the last class to graduate from the old school. He was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Waverly, where he served as an usher.

Val and his brothers carried on LePage Excavating Transfer until it was sold. Val was formerly employed at Washington Scientific for over 30 years. Following his retirement, he worked 11 years for the Winsted Herald Journal. He was a member of the Waverly Volunteer Fire Department for 29 years and Fire Chief for eight years.

On June 25, 1960, Val and JoAnn Scheiber were united in marriage. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage and were blessed with five children, Patti, Mary Jo, Tim, Michele and Lisa.

Val enjoyed T.V., playing in the 500-card club group with classmates and friends. He also enjoyed the Minnesota Vikings, Twins, fishing trips up north, lottery scratch offs, and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Val is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn; children, Patti (Mark) Heller, Mary Jo (Lyle) Lemke, Tim (Janet Gruenhagen Hugo) LePage, Michele (Kent) Luhmann, and Lisa (Travis) Milhausen; grandchildren, Brittany (Jason) Buxcel, Danny (Shayla) Heller, Tom (Nina) Lemke, Nick Lemke, Calvin Hugo, Abby Luhmann, Tyler Pipo, Travis Milhausen Jr., and Kiersten Milhausen; great-grandchildren, Hallie, Porter, and Flint Heller and Peyton Lemke; sisters-in-law, Marcy LePage, Karen LePage, Kathy Stephani, and Carol Zander; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Alan, Ron, and Linda; and by brothers-in-law, Paul, Syl, and Dennis.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2021 from 4-8 p.m. at The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. A Mass of Christian Burial for “Val” “Pooch” LePage will be held on Friday, March 5, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly. Father Kenneth O’Hotto will be the Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Casket Bearers will be grandchildren, Brittany Buxcel, Danny Heller, Tom Lemke, Nick Lemke, Calvin Hugo, Abby Luhmann, Tyler Pipo, Travis Milhausen Jr., and Kiersten Milhausen.

Donald Matti, 83

Funeral services were held for Donald “Don” Matti, age 83 of Buffalo, Minnesota on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Plymouth Apostolic Lutheran Church in Plymouth Minnesota, with Pastor Joel Baker officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Thomas Needle. Don was laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills, Minnesota.

The pallbearers were William Evans, Vincent Yncierto, Khalil Yncierto, Maxwell Matti, Kylie Yncierto and Cassandra Evans.  Honorary pallbearers were Zach Evans, Finn Matti, Devon Matti, Zia Matti and Josie Matti. Military Honors were provided by Charles D. Center V.F.W. Post #3289 of New York Mills, Minnesota.

Donald Clayton Matti was born on August 8, 1937 in Newton Township, rural New York Mills, Minnesota. His parents were the late Everett and Minnie (Isaacson) Matti. Don was baptized on November 11, 1937 and confirmed July 20, 1952 at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills. He graduated from New York Mills High School with the Class of 1955.  

Don proudly served in the United States Army from March 18, 1959 to November 27, 1959. When he returned, he was employed at the mines on the Iron Range and then made his home in the Twin Cities. 

On June 1, 1963, Don was united in marriage with Genevieve Rose Pesola. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Clayton, Scott, Sonya, and Sarah. They resided in the Twin Cities and Coon Rapids for nine years. In 1971, they made their home in Buffalo. Don was employed by Smith Lumber in Spring Lake Park and also worked with various construction companies. Don owned and operated Don Matti Construction Company in Buffalo for thirty years. 

Don enjoyed the “Let’s Go Fishing” program, where he would take seniors on pontoon boat rides around Lake Pulaski. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, watching sports, skiing, traveling, puzzles, and spending time with his family. Don had a strong belief and faith in the Lord. 

Preceding Donald in death were his parents; brothers, Edmund, Kenneth, Floyd, Stanley, Glen, and Harold Matti; sisters, Mabel Matti, Mildred Szymonowicz, Margaret Bremseth, Marlene Nathe. 

Donald is survived by his wife, Genevieve Matti; children, Clayton Matti, Scott (Heather) Matti, Sonya (William) Evans, and Sarah (Vincent) Yncierto; nine grandchildren, Devon, Cassandra, Zach, Zia, Max, Khalil, Josie, Kylie, and Finn; sisters, Myrtle (Roger) Larson and MaryAnn (Robert) Malisheski; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

James Munstenteiger, 81

James “Jim” Munstenteiger, age 81, of Maple Lake, died Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Havenwood in Buffalo.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2021 at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Maple Lake with Fr. John Meyer as Celebrant. Private family burial will follow at Marysville Catholic Cemetery, Marysville Township, Wright County. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:45 a.m. on Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. The service will be live-streamed on the funeral home’s website. Memorials are preferred to St. Timothy Catholic School.

James Francis Munstenteiger was born February 10, 1940 in Buffalo, Minnesota, to Ben and Isabelle (Latour) Munstenteiger. Jim was raised on the family farm in Maple Lake Township. He graduated from Maple Lake High School in 1958. Jim lived his entire life in Maple Lake and worked as a dairy farmer. In addition to farming, Jim also worked for Pace Industries in Maple Lake. On January 28, 1995, he was united in marriage to Myra (Bruns) Demarais. Jim enjoyed cheering on the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He liked to tend to his garden and socialize with family and friends.

He is survived by his stepchildren, Dean Demarais, of Cold Spring, Lisa (Tom) Decker, of Waverly, Daren (Renee) Demarais, of Maple Lake, and Laurie (Jason) Rothers, of Glenwood; siblings, Larry (Janet), of Maple Lake, and Pat Erickson, of Uvalde, TX; sisters-in-law, Mary Munstenteiger and Kathy Munstenteiger; and many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren; nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Myra; parents, Ben and Isabel; sisters, Anabel Jude and Rita Jude; and brothers, Joe Munstenteiger and Steve Munstenteiger.

Jaret, Jayce, and Justin Demarais, Samantha Rothers, Alexandra Gardner, Jerika Decker, Joe Baker, and Benny Jude will serve as pallbearers. Sarah Goelz and Krista Elsenpeter will provide music for the service.

John Oliver, 66

John “JP” Oliver, age 66, of Buffalo, MN passed away February 27, 2021.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Terry; parents, John and Inez Oliver; mother-in-law, Marilyn Marszalek; and God parents, Russ & Ella Wagner.

John is survived by his daughter, Amanda (Eric) Jaeger; siblings, Daniel (Sue) Oliver, Robert Oliver, Irene (Terry) Soeffker, Lorie (Dave) Menzel, James (Benita) Oliver; in-laws, Kay Marszalek and James Marszalek; and many nieces, nephews, and other beloved family.

JP owned his own business, John Oliver Tile, for over 30 years. He was married to Terry for 33 years. In that time, they built a house in Champlin, MN where they raised their only child, Amanda. JP was known for his great sense of humor and contagious smile. He was greatly loved and always will be.

Visitation for John will be held Saturday, March 6 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at The Peterson Chapel of St. Michael / Albertville. Interment in the Hanover City Cemetery at a later date.
