Clarence Eull, 92

Clarence R. Eull, age 92, of St. Michael, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, when his life came full circle, passing in the very home he was born in.

Clarence was born on the original Eull homestead February 18, 1932, in Frankfort Township, Wright County, Minnesota, the son of Jacob and Catherine (Wey) Eull.

As a young boy, he was responsible at an early age for helping on the family farm and working with the draft horse teams for fieldwork, tending to the dairy herds, and in his mid-teens, began transitioning the farm to the first tractors and powered equipment. Clarence had an exceptional mechanical aptitude and was a natural at adopting and implementing updates and improvements around the farm throughout the years.

In 1952, Clarence was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve in the Korean War. He had basic training at Fort Lewis, WA, and was then selected for NCO school for engineering in the 9th U.S. Corps in Korea, and later assigned to serve in the 194th Engineering Battalion in Korea’s Chorwon Valley until 1955, when he returned home. His fellow Army buddies remained near and dear to him throughout his life, as was his honor in serving the Nation.

On June 6, 1961, Clarence and Mary Ann Steichen were married at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Pearl Lake, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Clarence was very active in the farming community and in various agricultural associations, such as the National Farmers Organization. He raised crops and produced Grade A Guernsey milk from his dairy herd for 30 years. In 1988, the dairy herd was sold, and Clarence became a certified real property appraiser, dedicated to this work for another 30 years.

Clarence was also involved in many organizations, such as the American Legion Post 567, where he served as commander, service officer, and led the honor guard for many years. Other organizations included volunteering for the Minneapolis and St. Cloud VA Hospitals, the St. Michael Catholic Church, and charity events in and around the Twin Cities. An additional hobby was his love of draft horses, of which he had several teams throughout the years; entering the teams in local parades and the annual Camp Courage Wagon Train. Other areas of interest were woodworking and constructing scale models of horse-drawn farm implements with harnessed teams of horses. The culmination of his craftsmanship included building the scale model of the historic St. Michael Catholic Church. Clarence was widely known for his friendly nature, his ability to befriend complete strangers, and his love of getting to know people. He was a prolific advocate for many social justice issues, such as the Wright County Food for Life organization, and was always concerned for helping the less fortunate and underprivileged. Most everyone who met Clarence considered him a friend.

Foremost, Clarence was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; he cherished being involved with his family and continuously expressed his love for them in many ways.

He rode and trained horses for many years. One of his favorite accomplishments was a Missouri Fox Trotter stallion he rescued that eventually won a world championship model title in 2009. He also had a love for his many pets, including several dogs and cats over the years.

Dennis loved being with his grandchildren, especially bringing them to the “candy store” and buying them as much candy as they could enjoy, before having to go back home to Mom and Dad.

He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, generous spirit, and for always taking the road less traveled.

Chloe Schumacher, 12

Chloe Elizabeth Schumacher, 12 years old, passed away peacefully in her home, early in the morning, on Friday, May 17, 2024; surrounded by her family. She went to be with her Lord and Savior after a courageous, nearly 13-month-long battle with stage 4 glioblastoma (an aggressive brain cancer). Through all her treatments, surgeries, blood draws, and infusions, she was courageous. She never felt sorry for herself, she chose to live, live her best life no matter the circumstances, bringing positivity and laughter wherever possible.

Chloe was born on August 17, 2011, in Buffalo, Minnesota, to James and Tessa (Dille) Schumacher. She lived in Buffalo with her family until they moved to Helena, Montana, in 2018.

She went to preschool and kindergarten in Rockford, MN. Next, she attended Rossiter Elementary in Helena, MT, 1st through 5th grade. In April 2023, she was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma, and everything changed for Chloe. After her surgery, radiation, and chemo treatments in Rochester, MN, she entered 6th grade in the fall of 2023 at CR Anderson Middle School, Helena. There she was excited to learn to play the violin. But unfortunately, symptoms from her treatment eventually made it impossible for her to attend school in person.

Chloe was a loving big sister that liked to be silly and make her brother and sisters laugh. She was known to play the occasional prank that would end in surprise and laughter. She also enjoyed swimming, fishing, hiking, taking goat walks with her family, and looking for just the right shaped rock to use as a canvas for her next painting.

She was exceptionally artistic, no matter the medium, she loved them all. If there was paper and anything to draw with close at hand, she was creating. Chloe also delighted in painting pictures. She loved nature, animals in particular, and was actively involved in the small hobby farm her parents started. Holding the baby animals gave her joy.

At a young age Chloe was on the move, so it was only natural to bring her to gymnastics class. She became a competitive gymnast at Gym406 in Helena, and her favorite event was floor. Being in the gym and practicing her skills at home was second nature to her.

Chloe’s life on this earth was not nearly long enough. Only a love so deep could hurt this much, we are grateful God gave you to us.

“Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’” Matthew 19:14.

Chloe is survived by her parents, James and Tessa (Dille) Schumacher; her brother, Evan James (10); and her two sisters, Madelyn Grace (7) and Clara Josephine (4). Also survived by grandparents Ian and Pamela (Dille) Rich, Sooke, British Columbia, Canada; Jeff Jensen, Rockford, MN, and Scott Schumacher, Silver Bay, MN; as well as many Aunts, Uncles and cousins.

Born May 23, 1964, to George and JoAnn Wren, Rick was an accomplished painter and woodworker with a career spanning over 30 years. He founded and owned Wright Painting, a Rockford, MN-based small business.

He was an accomplished outdoorsman who musket, bow, and gun-hunted deer, duck, and other game with his children and brothers. He frequented Lake Sarah and Lake Pulaski to fish and spend time on the water with family and friends. When the weather was not right for exploring the outdoors, he bonded with his family over movies. Rick loved to cook and never let a successful day of hunting or fishing go to waste. He enjoyed sharing his homemade summer sausage, jerky, and smoked meats with those around him. Rick loved seafood and accomplished his dream of taking his camper to Alabama to catch crab, fish on the ocean, and enjoy time with his dog, Madison.
