Down, but not out

Dec. 23, 2017, the Nelson's were home around 8:00 p.m. when four unknown vandals destroyed many of the customary Christmas decorations sitting in the yard. The lights and decorations pay a tribute to two of the Nelson's lost sons. (Photo by Miriam Orr)

The Nelsons, who have been decorating their yard in honor of their two sons, were victims of vandalism in Buffalo on Dec. 23, 2017. Pictured above are Terry and Carla Nelson, in their home. (Photos by Miriam Orr)

The largest of the Nelson's decorations was almost a seven foot blow-up, now cut down.

On the corner of Viking Drive in Buffalo, the Nelsons decoration display is an impressive show of music, lights, and commemorative thoughts. Some of their decorations have surivived since 1989.

What once was a blow-up Christmas penguin now sits, deflated, in the Nelsons yard. Some of these decorations, Terry pointed out, are out-of-date and nearly impossible to replace. Thankfully, the community has been supportive and is making sure the Nelsons are able to somewhat replace their lost decorations.
